'Frozen'
was the first single from Madonna's 1998 Ray
Of Light-album.
The long-awaited track was one of the first
songs in the history of the internet to be
available online a whole month before its
actual release. A now defunct website from
Singapore offered a low-quality wav-file for
download while hysteria broke out among fans
and especially at Warner Bros. - with legal
action threats being made against websites
offering the track for free download. It was
too late anyway and the song didn't suffer
from its early exposure at all - quite the
opposite happened.
Both the song and its video
marked a radical change for Madonna but got
an overwhelming reaction from both critics
and fans. There couldn't have been a better
track to mark Madonna's comeback to the dancefloor. |

|
| Speaking
of the dancefloor: 'Frozen' marks also
the beginning of a series of amazing remixes
which were done during the Ray
Of Light-era. For the first time Madonna
was working with Victor Calderone who went
on to remix most of Madonna's follow-up singles.
His club-mix of 'Frozen' is a favorite
of most fans. Same goes for the remarkable
remix done by the Stereo MC's. Their remix
is often considered even superior to the original
version and was even used by Madonna on her
Drowned
World Tour 2001. |
